Jakub Bors (00:00.111)
gonna go. So basically you're gonna do this crystal ball introduction and then you're gonna ask me questions about it. You want me to talk about it a little bit? Is that what it is?
Holly Linton (00:03.096)
Yeah.
Holly Linton (00:11.072)
Yeah, like so so after I I do that and say so obviously our topic today is the fall upgrade. Jacob's done the beta Go ahead. Do it better.
Jakub Bors (00:21.733)
What's it?
Brilliant.
Holly Linton (00:26.85)
Jacob's done Jacob has looked at the beta version and has tested the new tools. So he's gonna I'm gonna mention what e how about I say so the first first new one is enhance and then I'll just be like what what did you find what were your findings? So you could talk about that. Then I'll talk about atmosphere, then the smart compositions, and then the AI assistant, and then the printing.
Jakub Bors (00:32.281)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (00:39.407)
Uh-huh.
Jakub Bors (00:48.965)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (00:52.655)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (00:53.1)
And then we could mention upgraded masking is coming at the end of November. Did you look at the masking? Did you okay. The ba the beta version of the masking. Okay. So you can mention something about it. Or
Jakub Bors (01:01.315)
Well I i I I did a whole video on it. yeah, I covered the beta version, yeah, yeah, massively. Yeah, I can say yeah, yeah, yeah, we can we can mention so so after the printing we do we just touch on masking and
Holly Linton (01:17.374)
mention that that'll be coming eventually. No, right. Right. and then the pricing. So I can do the pricing and have that written down.
Jakub Bors (01:20.409)
I wouldn't mention the frames at all because we're not really sure they are coming.
Jakub Bors (01:29.027)
Brilliant. And the s I wouldn't I don't whatever degree you wanna go into, who is it available for? But
Holly Linton (01:35.426)
Yeah, I'll just keep it generic. Just what they showed us on the chart. So it's Wednesday, October twenty eighth, Luminar one point two nine will be released.
Jakub Bors (01:39.065)
That's it.
Jakub Bors (01:46.415)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Holly Linton (01:49.442)
But we're allowed to start talking about it tomorrow, which is are are you gonna publish this tomorrow?
Jakub Bors (01:52.538)
Tomorrow.
I managed to edit it, yes. If not, then Friday. I'm ready. I'm ready like I've never been before.
Holly Linton (01:56.718)
Okay.
Jakub Bors (02:07.461)
Should I put a candle on or something?
Holly Linton (02:08.856)
Do you wanna do the welcome or am I gonna do it? Like
Jakub Bors (02:14.841)
I think it needs to start from you then because
Holly Linton (02:17.526)
Okay, I'm gonna take deep breath.
Holly Linton (02:25.558)
I wanna be like, hello.
Jakub Bors (02:27.69)
Ha ha ha.
Holly Linton (02:31.768)
Okay, ready?
Jakub Bors (02:33.093)
I'm ready.
Holly Linton (02:35.742)
Welcome everyone! We're back for another episode of Lumacast, the podcast where we talk about photography, photo editing, and our love of Luminar. I'm Holly Linton from Tennessee. Next to me is Jacob Bohrers, and today we are talking about the fall upgrade. And we're going to use my crystal ball to see if we can determine when it's going to be released. So let's just jump right in.
spirits of Skyloom, please, please tell us when can we expect the fall upgrade? Jacob, I'm hearing from Alina right now. I hear something from Yazia. Okay, it's coming to me. The fall upgrade will be released Wednesday, October 28th. Alright, woohoo!
So that's our topic for today.
Jakub Bors (03:28.461)
I love that. Hello everyone. Holly, that was amazing. So we thought we're gonna start on a different note. I guess you all know the Halloween is coming. Holly is already collecting her Halloween costumes and props. And yeah, we are very excited to talk about the upcoming luminar upgrade. Would you call it? Yeah, upgrade, I guess. So, Holly, how are you? First of all.
Holly Linton (03:50.83)
Mm-hmm.
I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm working on my acting skills, as you can see. Thanks.
Jakub Bors (03:57.623)
Well done. Well done. That was awesome. So okay, without the acting skills, what do what are we gonna do today then?
Holly Linton (04:03.704)
So we'll the fall upgrade is is coming out. We're finally allowed to tell you when it's coming. And Jacob has had the opportunity to do the beta testing on it. So we're gonna go through each tool and he'll he'll give his input on what he thinks is different and improved about it. That's it. Yeah. Yeah.
Jakub Bors (04:07.706)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (04:13.764)
Yes.
Jakub Bors (04:21.071)
Great. Yeah. Awesome. Yes. So I did have a chance to work with the beta version, which is probably what would we say? It's one of the more recent beta versions. So most of these tools we assume are either already or they are just about to be at the point that's gonna be shared in a couple of weeks. So I hope that whatever I'm gonna share is quite valid and I'm looking forward to it. So Holly's gonna
kind of guide us through it and I will give you my opinions. Holly, what do you then?
Holly Linton (04:50.504)
Mm-hmm. All right. So the first upgrade will be with the enhanced tool. What have you seen different about that?
Jakub Bors (04:56.837)
Mm-hmm.
So yes, enhance AI two point right? There will be lots of two points out out there. for people who've been using Luminar products for some time. Obviously, it's very popular slider. What we like about it all the way through different versions of Luminar is the fact that this slider basically sort of pre-develop pre-develop your image. And what's even better on it, it adjusts the settings based on the image itself. So let's say that you use it on one photo and then you
Holly Linton (05:02.156)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (05:28.317)
Copying and paste it on the other photos, it reapplies the edits and readjusts. Now, commonly or historically, one of the biggest issues with this slider was A, it was giving sort of HDR overprocessed look, especially in the higher numbers, once you went over that 50-60%. It just looked very overprocessed. And also it gave us lots of artifacts, generally in the skies, but often around edges when there was a big contrast. So
If you would let's say have a portrait of a let's say a woman with a blue sky behind, and you would lose use lots of enhanced AI, there would be quite a big glow around. If there would be quite strong gradient of colors in a sky. So let's say on the top you start from darker and then you go brighter when you go down. If you would push the enhanced AI, it would give you this almost like a what is it, banding, I think is the is the right word for it. so
Holly Linton (06:06.136)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (06:21.281)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Jakub Bors (06:24.569)
This was definitely some of the faults of the enhanced AI and the reason why lots of people were sort of careful of using it. And also while for example, somebody like me actually stopped using it because the result was really yeah, very processed and HDR looking. And while that was fine seven years ago when the HDR look was really popular.
Now it just started to be a little bit out of fashion. And this is why they decided to keep the same name and same slider, but pretty much rework everything that was behind. So it is really like from scratch, built-again tool that enhance colors, lighting, and details. And it's very much focusing on keeping the natural result. and the idea is that the natural result will stay all the way to the 100% on the slider.
Holly Linton (07:15.726)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (07:16.769)
Now with my testing, I have actually tried different images, different amount of contrast on the images, different lighting. And I have to say that I have tried all the way to 100, and I have then also tried to use it on my laptop where I had the beta version and on my desktop where I have the older version. And the main difference was definitely with the strength. So while on a laptop, on a beta version, I could go really to eighty ninety and still get quite good results. With the older version, you just couldn't. So
They definitely improved. I could also see the difference on the banding, so it's much less visible and it's very careful about that. So the result is much better there. And what else I wanted to say? And just in overall, the look is much more natural. There is much less contrast, there is much less saturation, the sharpening is much more careful. this apparently, if you would really be interested in it, there is sort of
AI algorithm working behind the scene, which is looking at what is on the photo. It using, I think it's eight or twelve, I can't remember, but there is about eight different scenarios that it can apply to photos and try to use them to basically then edit it. So I'm assuming it will maybe know something like a landscape and maybe portrait, and it will sort of keep an eye on how to edit the photo. So definitely welcome improvement on this tool.
Maybe one that people who never use it before will find difficult to understand because they may not be able to see easily the difference. But if you are somebody who used enhanced AI before, you will definitely see that the result is much more natural and much more closer to what you probably be looking for these days.
Holly Linton (08:57.132)
Okay. Good. Yeah. I found it surprising that they're claiming, you know, you could pull it to a hundred percent. So I'll be curious to see that for myself. And and you're right. It says it identifies eight different types of situations. So I think the previous one I wanna say was like twelve different it identified twelve different things. So and it's suggesting it's not super duper artificial intelligence related. It's more
Jakub Bors (09:03.301)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, definitely. Give it a go.
Jakub Bors (09:11.053)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (09:17.123)
Right. Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (09:24.175)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (09:24.972)
It's just like some other kind of intelligence. So don't don't start to think that it's it's getting so AI oriented. It just has some kind of smart better technology, I guess, is sort of how they told us in the affiliate meeting. So all right, well I'll be I'll be happy to check that out 'cause I I like using enhance AI, for a lot of my editing. So
Jakub Bors (09:27.513)
All right.
Jakub Bors (09:33.37)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Right.
Jakub Bors (09:44.794)
Yeah.
Jakub Bors (09:48.371)
How far would you usually go with your slider?
Holly Linton (09:50.331)
probably like not not a lot. Maybe in the twenties or something. So yeah, put it pulling it to a hundred should be interesting. But yeah. All right. Well, the next new tool upgrade is going to be the Atmosphere AI tool. And I know Jacob loves fog, so
Jakub Bors (09:54.679)
Okay. Okay. So same like me. Mm-hmm.
Yeah, definitely.
Jakub Bors (10:08.217)
Mm-hmm. Atmosphere AI. All right. So yes, Atmosphere AI. So I'm a massive fan of this tool. I've always been since it appeared all the way till now. I know that of course that you can add fog and mist and all of that with overlays, but the fact that you can add it in app and that it sorts of work with a specific image is great and I always loved it. We already received a little upgrade last year, if you remember Holly. we were able to adjust the depth.
Quite nicely. So that was really cool. And now they sort of bring in a tool, let's say, not even one level up, several levels up, mostly with what you can control. So in past, you didn't have much of a control. You know, you choose in different type of fog, then you adjust the depth, the strength, and maybe the color. The color was more if it was bright or maybe not so bright the fog, that was it, you know. But now you're actually gonna be able to do much, much more than that. Obviously, this is building very much on the
3D depth mask they've been using now quite often. you know, we already seen it in the light depth, we've seen it in a Boca AI. In probably the earliest we've seen it in a studio light as well, you know. So that's probably the earliest example on this 3D depth mask when they sort of scan the person in an image and then you're able to move the lights around. So that was probably the first place where we seen it, and then it arrived with the live depth and boca AI. And now we can see it with
Holly Linton (11:13.966)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (11:36.669)
with the fork. So let's just talk about the tool. What happens when you open it? now you actually have a section section. You have a selection of three different forks. You have sort of ground fork which used to be called mist I think. Then you have sort of wispy fork which I don't necessarily know what it means, but it's sort of let's say somewhere between your your ground fork and your full-time fog and then you have this creamy full fork. So you have a selection of three different forks and then
Finally, you can really use this 3D mask where you can sort of move the fog around, up, down, you can move the fog in and out in a space. And yeah, you can really control a lot. There are additional controllers which I don't necessarily know if it makes it easier to use, but it definitely gives you more customization. So there are things like like the color, you can control the how thick is the fog, you can control.
Holly Linton (12:25.592)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (12:34.904)
how many of these little folk clouds are there or if there are none, so you just get that sort of creamy folk on. So yeah, like there is a lot to control. So if you're really looking for like a very specific result, you'll be able to do that. And yeah, it's exciting. I'm very, very excited to see what people are gonna do with it.
Holly Linton (12:51.924)
Mm-hmm. Fog is always a great tool for Halloween. That's definitely probably one is used most.
Jakub Bors (12:55.518)
Absolutely. And autumn. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. So that's my view on it. Yeah. Do you use the atmosphere AI manually or? Is that it? Okay.
Holly Linton (13:01.432)
Awesome.
Holly Linton (13:05.386)
pretty much for Halloween edits. No, but once in a while, there I have a lot of fog pictures just from the natural fog out here in the Tennessee Mountains. And I wonder, is it necessary to add even more fog? Or do you think a fog the fog tool is for adding like if there was no fog existing, is that more when you would use that tool? Or would you would you use it to enhance fog that's already in your picture?
Jakub Bors (13:15.0)
All right. Hmm, so you're lucky.
Jakub Bors (13:20.9)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (13:26.628)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (13:32.728)
Hmm, that's a good point. You can definitely do both. And I think again, if you have a situation where the fog would be naturally there, so like morning and soft light, I think that makes sense then. Where if you have like a daylight blue sky and you know then it just doesn't make sense. But I also know that lots of people use the fog like a light fade. If you use a little bit of the fog slider, just gives you a little fade, little creamy look, which can work quite nice, especially for a background. Hmm. Okay.
Holly Linton (13:41.638)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (13:52.557)
Uh-huh.
Holly Linton (13:58.357)
Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah. All right. On to the third new upgraded tool is the Smart Composition, which I don't know how you'll tell us, did they change the name from crop? is it called Smart Composition now? Okay.
Jakub Bors (14:11.489)
Mm-hmm.
No, it's still called crop AI and it's still C on your keyboard how to get there. so the top of the tool is still pretty much the same. For those who didn't know, obviously in a crop you crop your image, you have some of the presets, you can also rotate the image and flip it horizontally, vertically, all of that. But now on top of it, we have a section which is called smart composition, actually. And once you enter the crop tool, this section will load and it will actually create three.
Holly Linton (14:19.214)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (14:43.638)
Offers on what how you could crop your image. Now, generally, these offers are made on the traditional crop or composition rules, things like your golden triangle, golden ratio, centered composition, and so on. Now we can just click on them. As you click on them, it will offer you the different crop. sometimes it will straighten the image and crop in a center, sometimes it will use the full
Size of the image, sometimes it will really crop in. It really depends on the image. It depends what's happening there. Again, it's using AI to sort of scan the image and try to figure out what would be the best crop for you. so it's up to you to choose if you want one of the three that are offered immediately, but you can also click on an additional button, which will basically give you even more choices. And you can sort of go through the list and see if any of these offerings work for you. So if you someone who is completely lost with cropping, you are like,
My composition never worked. This I just never know how to corrupt my image. This is quite nice entry into it. If you someone that is very comfortable with it and already shooting with knowing what they're gonna be doing, then you will probably never use this in your life. So it's just a nice little thing for people who may be just starting. additionally, it still has the auto straightening option, which obviously will use the horizon to straighten the image, which I think is cool.
Holly Linton (15:44.174)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (15:52.022)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (16:05.078)
And most importantly, one I enjoy the most, I was telling Holly earlier about it, is the fact that you can actually swap the different overlays on the top of the image before you crop it manually. So let's say that you crop your image to your two or three, two on three or sixteen on nine. Once you do that, then you can choose if you want the overlay in a shape of, you know, golden triangle or or golden ratio or this kind of how you call the squirrel, Holly.
Holly Linton (16:14.369)
Uh-huh.
Holly Linton (16:33.656)
Well how do you call I call it swirl.
Jakub Bors (16:36.68)
That's right. I'm sure there is a name for it. yeah, golden ratio, golden golden spiral. That's what it is, spiral. That's what it is. I'll be good there eventually. Yeah, so you can choose all of them and then they help you to crop the image manually. So I have to say this is something that I think is really handy again, especially for people who just starting, who maybe don't see it immediately. I think this is great. So this is a great addition, nice little update to the crop AI, and I think something that people will
Holly Linton (16:44.206)
Spiral. Okay.
Jakub Bors (17:06.474)
Enjoy.
Holly Linton (17:07.188)
Mm-hmm. So if for someone just still learning about composition, it's a good literal visual aid to show to show people what you know what a proper composition can do for your picture. Mm-hmm. Okay. Cool. All right. W well, do we need to take a short commercial break? Do we we need to go
Jakub Bors (17:19.14)
Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Cool.
Jakub Bors (17:28.013)
I think that's what we're gonna do.
Yes, we'll be right back. All right. Now I don't know much about the AI assistant, I'm gonna be honest. but I will Yeah yeah. It's so much better than it was. Which actually I am I'm probably third way through. I will release the full new version at the end of November.
Holly Linton (17:32.696)
Summon some more spirits. We'll be right back.
Holly Linton (17:41.88)
Alright. You can just be generic. Just be just say it it it seems like it's just it's still not as good as Lumabot by Clever Photographer.
Holly Linton (18:01.44)
Of Lumabot? Okay.
Jakub Bors (18:01.442)
Because yeah, and the thing is I thought that I will be just able to like adjust it, but no, you just you have to sort of start from scratch because things moved around and yeah, it just doesn't work, you know. So so I had to start from the beginning, which is lots of work, but yeah, I think either I will give it to the people who bought it for free or maybe for fiber or I don't know, I don't know yet, but it will definitely get updated because it needs so it should be fun. Anyway.
Holly Linton (18:10.765)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (18:26.796)
Needs to. So I guess I'd say it's it's improved technology. It's supposed to help you with your edits. Again, it's really to me more for beginners. Or if you're so super stumped as to how to use Luminar, you know.
Jakub Bors (18:35.363)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (18:42.762)
Mm-hmm. yeah. Cool. Okay. Okay, you need to return and oo.
Holly Linton (18:45.922)
You d I'll let I'll leave that up to you. Okay. Okay, wait, let me okay, wait, hold on. Let's make it fun. Let's make it fun.
Holly Linton (18:58.286)
And we're back. The next new upgraded tool is what is it? AI assistant. Jacob, what what's that all about?
Jakub Bors (19:08.32)
Wow. I love your crystal ball, by the way. You know, it just for all the people out there who are only listening to us, Holly is sitting in her studio with the crystal ball, which looks a little bit like a neon crystal ball. And what is it that you have on your head that's like
Holly Linton (19:12.024)
Thank you.
Holly Linton (19:22.326)
Yes. I I got well I got this for five dollars at Dollar Tree, which now is no longer a dollar. And then this is just a a table runner. I got this was a dollar at Dollar Tree. It's a table runner with little spider webs on it. Just to you just to use as a photography prop.
Jakub Bors (19:28.622)
So of course you did. Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (19:39.48)
Great. I just I thought
Felt like we need to share that with people who are just listening to us, you know. Good. All right, let's go back to Luminar. AI assistant is what we're talking about. And now we have talked about AI assistant here several times since it's been released last year. I want to say, I'm not 100% sure. I know that we have sort of struggled with it because the results were not always great, but the tool itself is actually very handy, especially if you're just starting. If you're a beginner, I think that's a great tool to start with now.
Holly Linton (19:45.23)
Okay. Yes.
Jakub Bors (20:12.93)
It's a little bit like with all of these tools, you know, ChatGPT and all the AI there. And I have a little problem with it from the point of view that you're not learning anything. It will do the immediate effect, it will give you the result, but you don't necessarily know why. So I would like people to use it and I definitely invite them to use it as a inspiration and as maybe the first step. But don't just sort of lean on this is all I need to do and that's it. You know, it's a little bit like with enhanced AI. Okay, it's nice to
Holly Linton (20:21.814)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (20:42.838)
Increase the slider and that's it. But you haven't learned anything with that. You have no idea why the highlights are brighter and shadows are darker and why the sharpening is here. And I just think it's a shame. I just think that it's a shame for people who like you and me. You know, we love every part of photography, and the editing is another part, and we want to learn and improve in it, you know. So why replace that with AI? So this AI assistant, according to
I didn't I wasn't able to do much testing on it because you really need to spend some time with it. And I only got the beta version a few days ago. But yeah, it gives you some nice inspiration. It gives you some nice let's say offer some tips on how you could enhance the photo or how you could turn it to black and white or how you could remove some distraction. And it's definitely worth checking and trying. I feel like maybe people who will just buy Luminar now, or maybe they are just about to.
Holly Linton (21:13.143)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (21:37.934)
They will probably use it a little bit more just to discover some of the tools. Somebody who already been using the application for five, six years, or even just for the three years or whatever, you are quite comfortable with what the tool's doing, you know, like you know what the enhanced AI does and what Atmosphere AI does. So try it, see if it works for you. If it works for you, great, go ahead and use it. But I wouldn't necessarily choose it as the biggest highlight of the whole upgrade. That's just from me.
Holly Linton (21:39.832)
Mm.
Holly Linton (22:04.45)
Right, I agree. Hundred percent. I'll pull that slider to a hundred percent. but you could I agree. It's just kind of automated. It's sort of like using auto adjust in develop raw. You're not you're not learning why why it's doing what it's doing. Though you can go back and check to see what it did. So with the AI assistant,
Jakub Bors (22:07.18)
Hmm. Very good. But you do do you agree on the learning? Do you agree that it just seems like we replace replace everything with these things now, you know?
Jakub Bors (22:23.256)
Right.
Jakub Bors (22:27.598)
Hmm.
Jakub Bors (22:30.978)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (22:32.822)
Maybe it's really more of a you could use it as a skills test. Do an edit on your own and then do a virtual copy, undo all the edits, and then use the AI assistant, you know, suggestions and and compare your pictures. See if see if the AI assistant suggested or did anything different that made your image that much better than the one you created with your own skills and knowledge. but
Jakub Bors (22:36.598)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (22:45.316)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (22:50.574)
Yeah, yeah.
Jakub Bors (22:58.308)
Goodbye.
Holly Linton (23:01.186)
I probably test it just to just to see what it's doing. But otherwise I I'll say I Lou use LumaPot from Clever Photographer. I already said that in our last video. But no, for beginners, I think, yeah, for someone who's totally stumped, new to luminar and new to editing, can get something out of it. So I'm not gonna be completely negative about the whole thing, but that's what I have to say.
Jakub Bors (23:04.74)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (23:11.19)
sweet.
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (23:24.012)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, absolutely.
Jakub Bors (23:29.546)
Just to sort of say this is completely out of topic, but Photoshop now has a similar idea. They now also have a so they have like a pro mode, which is the traditional Photoshop, and they have a AI assistant mode, which is supposed to be like for the beginners. And I have tried three different projects with it, and I have failed miserably. Like it's just that's the I don't know, maybe it's the user, but I just didn't get anything near to what I would do. So that's that's maybe why I'm sort of pessimistic towards it, you know, and why I like tools which
Holly Linton (23:41.134)
Mm-hmm. Okay.
Holly Linton (23:47.991)
Ha ha ha.
Holly Linton (23:54.317)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (23:58.552)
teach you and which sort of guide you through the process. So like for example, Skylum has this sort of like a courses, many courses where you select an image, it will bring you to the edit module and then you follow it step by step and see what it does. I think this is million times more beneficial for new user than typing a prompt and letting it do it for you. That's where I'm gonna leave it. Cool.
Holly Linton (24:10.403)
Yeah.
Holly Linton (24:18.082)
Right. Okay. Excellent. Well, we're on to our next new feature is going to be printing, which I'm sure will will please many people. What can you say about that?
Jakub Bors (24:25.25)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, yeah. I will I was at a conference about printing not long time ago, I think middle of September. And I I I do some printing obviously for customers and into galleries and generally I don't know much about it, so I share the responsibility with the print shops who know much better what they're doing. But this conference was very much about people being able to print stuff at home or
really go into the depth and I was amazed and a little bit hooked up on the printing idea because it is true that there are lots of details you don't see when you see the image on a screen and you only see once it gets printed. And I feel like if anything, even if you don't sell your photos, it that's a great another step in education, you know, to then look out for things like your sharpness and really the sensor dust. You know, we all assume that once we click the remove sensor dust button
Holly Linton (25:07.822)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (25:25.922)
That's you're done so sorted, but that's not necessarily the case. There can still be pieces. Also, when you do like a heavy edit, let's say that you remove something and it looks okay on a little screen, but when you print it, you look at it, you're thinking, wow, this is actually not so great. So it was awesome. And I do suggest and urge everybody, every photographer out there, try to print their photos. Even if it's like a little print which you're gonna just keep home, or if you're gonna do crazy print for home and start to sell it.
Holly Linton (25:39.758)
Mm.
Jakub Bors (25:55.892)
doesn't matter. Honestly, it is just so much nicer to have a print in your hand than just keep looking at the screen. So that's a little bit about printing. But anyway, so Skylum brought basically like two mini tools when it comes to printing. First one is about printing at home. So I don't know how much printing you've done directly from Luminar, but probably not much because I haven't ever. You know, I would export the image and then I print it if I needed it, but I would never sort of print directly from the application.
But in past, if you would want to print from the application, I believe it was command or control P and actually it would open the native printing window like you see anywhere around Windows or Mac. You know, it's this gray thing, then you just select the same as setup and you print it. Where now there is actually native window, well, there is a luminar window for printing where you can go a little bit further when it comes to setup. You can set up the color colours and cropping and all of that.
That can be actually really handy. So that's for printing. Then there is a second option, which some people will be like, you know what, no, I print my own photos. I have my print shop. I know what I'm doing. Fair enough. But then I believe that there will be lots of people out there who will really love this one. And that's the fact that you can actually press a few buttons, send the image away directly to the print shop, which will print it, pack it, and send it back home for you. Or let's say if I would want to print picture for Holly, I could just here set it up, put her address.
Pay for it and then it gets delivered. So basically, this is a service which is built in Luminar where you select the photo, you adjust the cropping, you select the paper, all the usual things with your painting, you know, select the paper and you select the format, anything from your paper prints to canvas to frame prints. Then you sort of select your delivery, your transportation, how it's going to be delivered, put it in a little basket, then you pay for it and it's done. So
I can order for me, I can order for Holly, I can order for anybody directly from the application without the need of searching for service and going to a different website and exporting the image and worrying if it's in the right quality. I think this is brilliant. I really think that this is now one of my favorite new features because it removes the hurdle of printing. You know, people are scared of did I pr did I export it right? Did I export it right? Is this print company right? No, this is just straight from there. So it's great. So I'm really, really excited for that.
Holly Linton (28:06.051)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (28:11.233)
Right.
Jakub Bors (28:20.736)
And since we're talking about printing and regardless printing home or printing with this service, there is a new option where you can actually add your signature or watermark to the photos now as well. And I think that's quite neat. I have never added signature or watermark to my photo in my life, but I know lots of people do. And I can understand the reason why. You know, it's a strange world out there, or some people just want to know, want you to know that that's their photo. And this now can be done
Holly Linton (28:32.152)
Yeah.
Jakub Bors (28:50.818)
directly before printing or exporting, removing the need of applying overlay and you know, you know, having a headache from it. So you can basically export one image or 25 images. All of them will have the little water mark or signature where you decide however you want it to look. Yeah, that's I think that's really cool. That's definitely an update which or upgrade which in my opinion should have been in the application long time ago. But finally we have it. So that's exciting.
Holly Linton (28:56.813)
Right.
Holly Linton (29:18.562)
Right. I think people will really be happy with that watermark because that's a question that's always shown up on in social media over the years on the on the Luminar groups. How do I add a watermark? So I think people will really like that. And I know there's a lot of people who have like high quality printers at home. So like you said, it might just save them a step or two being able to print directly from from Luminar. Okay.
Jakub Bors (29:21.55)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Yeah, absolutely.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (29:39.748)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it may need some testing, but no, I think it's exciting. I think it's I think it's definitely a year of updates rather than upgrades when it comes to like new tools or new features. But then at the same time, I feel like we've been asking for this for quite some time now, you know. So maybe it's a good thing.
Holly Linton (29:53.73)
Mm.
Holly Linton (29:59.393)
Yeah. Yep. Okay. Well, there's one more thing that's not going to be it's going to be in the update upgrade, but not until the end of November is an upgraded masking features. So just know that that's coming, but we don't really have much information. Now, I hope, I'm sure wait, let me get my crystal ball.
Jakub Bors (30:04.802)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (30:11.972)
Okay.
yes, yes. Yeah. I'm so excited for this.
Ha ha ha.
Holly Linton (30:28.958)
If if engineers are listening, there's still time. Please let us copy masks from layer to layer. I don't I have a bad feeling that's not in there, but I s I am almost thinking they're gonna make it some big surprise. But yeah, that's still my my wish, but we'll see what happens. So yeah.
Jakub Bors (30:30.595)
Hey.
Jakub Bors (30:37.102)
Two like mm.
Jakub Bors (30:46.348)
Yeah, well you never know, huh? Maybe for Christmas, like a Christmas gift.
Jakub Bors (30:54.54)
Mm-hmm. Excellent. Well done. Yeah, yeah. So that was great. so lots to arrive next week already, when we think about it. Actually, that's very exciting. What did we say? Twenty eighth of October. What is it? Thursday, Friday? It's a Wednesday. Wow.
Holly Linton (30:59.426)
Yeah.
Holly Linton (31:03.693)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (31:07.48)
28th. That's a wen. It's a Wednesday. And so yeah, it'll be a luminar 1.29. And must we talk about pricing? I guess we should. If you want me to run down that. They're calling it the Black Friday special, even though it's not November yet. The Black Friday special starts October 19th, which is actually already past or prior. It already started prior to.
Jakub Bors (31:15.308)
Mm-hmm.
Yes.
Go for it.
Okay. Wow.
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (31:34.68)
Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (31:37.737)
everyone hearing and listening to this. But for new or legacy users, we have just a recap because you've heard this in the past, we have the desktop only, which is $99, the all platforms, which is $139, and then the Max, which includes all the prime benefits, that's $159. Then for existing users who did not get in on the prime
Jakub Bors (31:44.482)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (31:51.854)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (31:55.832)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (31:59.842)
Right. Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (32:07.148)
deal that they had a few weeks back, that's still $69. So any existing user can still, you know, get that. And I think the whole the whole idea now is to have this ecosystem kind of working together. We didn't mention, you know, the the web interface is now out. So you can, you know, start on your mobile, use use the web interface, and then finish on your desktop.
Jakub Bors (32:09.869)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (32:25.368)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (32:31.992)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Holly Linton (32:34.114)
So that's kinda how they're marketing everything now, you know, trying to get everybody, I guess, to be across all platforms. But certainly you can just stick to the desktop version if you so choose. So that's it. It's supposed to be the best pricing, best pricing deal of the year ever. And then of course, don't forget to use Clever Photographer's coupon code for another ten percent off. Never pay full price. So
Jakub Bors (32:41.251)
Mm-hmm.
Jakub Bors (32:47.598)
Great.
Yeah.
Jakub Bors (32:58.976)
Mm-hmm. Absolutely. Yeah. So Black Friday offer. I think with that we should be valid with the prices for a few weeks at least, right? I mean, yeah, so that should be good. Yeah.
Holly Linton (33:04.59)
Yes. I imagine that should go through November 'cause tick technically Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. You know? So Yeah. Uh-huh.
Jakub Bors (33:13.944)
That's it. That's it. So very good. Holly, well done. Yeah, good. That good for bringing everything together. Thank you for the crystal ball. I felt like that was that was Yeah. Before we f just so you know, Holly put back hair skirt and no the tablecloth and and and so take us away, Holly.
Holly Linton (33:21.632)
You're welcome. Might as well get a little more use out of this. Put it back on. Put it back on for the ending. This is My Veil. Yeah.
Holly Linton (33:38.211)
Yes. All right. Well, we learn in photography. The worst lighting is this right here. When you put it under your face, look really scary. But anyway, we hope you'll all enjoy the fall upgrade. And, you know, let us know in the comments what you think of all the new tools. That's your so your test is to your test for the week or homework for the week is to use all these new tools and let us know what you think. All right. And I hope it works well for everybody.
So thank you to Skylum for all the new stuff. We always appreciate it.
Jakub Bors (34:11.138)
Yep. Take care everyone. Bye bye.
Holly Linton (34:13.07)
All right, bye. Woo!
Jakub Bors (34:16.164)
Very good.
