The Grand Holland Photography Workshop is a complete 7-day spring photography journey through the Netherlands at one of the most beautiful times of the year.

This workshop is carefully designed to go far beyond the classic tulip and windmill images. Of course, we photograph the colour of the spring tulip fields and the iconic Dutch windmills, but the journey also takes you into Amsterdam’s canals, Rembrandt’s world of light and shadow, historic harbour villages, elegant Dutch towns, traditional crafts and the quiet details that make the Netherlands so special.

Each day is planned around light, atmosphere and photographic opportunity. We photograph at sunrise, sunset and blue hour whenever the conditions are most rewarding, giving you time to slow down, compose carefully and create images with mood, depth and intention.

One of the special strengths of this workshop is local knowledge. René, one of your guides, was born and raised in the Netherlands and brings a deep understanding of the country, the distances, the weather, the spring conditions and the best photographic moments. This helps us move smoothly through the journey and be in the right places at the right time.

From Amsterdam and Zaanse Schans to Volendam, Edam, Alkmaar, Haarlem, Delft, the tulip fields and the world-famous windmills of Kinderdijk, this is a rich and varied photography experience filled with colour, culture, history and Dutch atmosphere.

This is not a rushed sightseeing tour. It is a carefully guided photography workshop created to help you see more deeply, improve your images and return home with a collection of photographs that tell the full story of Holland in spring.

Day 1 – Saturday, 17th April

Pick-up at Amsterdam Schiphol • Transfer to Zaandam • Rembrandt museum • Stroopwafels • Private blue-hour canal cruise

You arrive at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and will be picked up by us and brought to our hotel in Zaandam.

In the afternoon, we travel into Amsterdam for a relaxed introduction to Dutch culture, art and photography, including a visit focused on Rembrandt and his use of light and shadow.

We also enjoy a traditional stroopwafel before ending the day with a private blue hour canal cruise, photographing Amsterdam’s historic houses, bridges, reflections and evening lights.

Day 2 – Sunday, 18th April

Sunrise at Zaanse Schans • Cheese Farm and Wooden Shoe Workshop • Volendam harbour • Edam historic town

We begin the day with a sunrise photography session at Zaanse Schans, capturing the historic windmills in the soft early morning light.

After breakfast, we return to explore traditional Dutch culture with visits to the Catharina Hoeve Cheese Farm and the Wooden Shoe Workshop, offering plenty of opportunities for storytelling, details and local character.

Later, we continue to Volendam and Edam, photographing colourful harbour scenes, canals, historic streets and traditional Dutch architecture before travelling towards the tulip region near Schagen.

Day 3 – Monday, 19th April

Full day in the North Holland tulip fields • Sunrise photography • Field exploration • Composition coaching • Sunset tulip session

This day is dedicated to photographing the colourful tulip fields of North Holland, beginning with a sunrise session in the peaceful polder landscape.

Throughout the day, we explore carefully chosen fields and work with different compositions, from bold colour patterns and leading lines to close details and wide landscape views.

We return to the fields for sunset, using the softer evening light to capture the colour, atmosphere and beauty of Dutch spring.

Day 4 – Tuesday, 20th April

Sunrise in the tulip fields • Travel to Alkmaar • Afternoon and evening photography in Alkmaar

We begin with another sunrise session in the tulip fields, giving us a second chance to capture the spring landscape in beautiful morning light.

After breakfast, we travel to Alkmaar and settle near the historic centre. In the afternoon and evening, we explore its canals, bridges, narrow streets and traditional Dutch architecture.

The day offers a lovely change of pace, moving from colourful countryside to the atmosphere and details of a historic Dutch town.

Day 5 – Wednesday, 21st April

Alkmaar Cheese Market • Transfer to Haarlem • Historic centre and blue-hour canal photography

We begin the day at Alkmaar’s famous cheese market, photographing its colourful traditions, lively atmosphere, local characters and historic details.

After lunch, we continue to Haarlem, one of the Netherlands’ most elegant historic cities.

In the afternoon and evening, we explore its canals, bridges, old houses and charming streets, finishing with a blue hour photography session in the historic centre.

Day 6 – Thursday, 22nd April

Visit and photograph Delft • Historic canals and quiet street scenes • Travel to Kinderdijk • Sunset and blue-hour windmill photography

After breakfast, we travel south to Delft, exploring its beautiful canals, bridges, historic streets and classic Dutch architecture.

Later, we continue to Dordrecht before heading to Kinderdijk for one of the final highlights of the workshop.

We photograph the iconic windmills at sunset and blue hour, working with reflections, silhouettes, water and the changing evening light.

Day 7 – Friday, 23rd April

Sunrise at Kinderdijk • Final windmill photography session • Breakfast and check-out • Transfer to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

We finish the workshop with a sunrise photography session at Kinderdijk, capturing its iconic windmills, reflections and peaceful morning atmosphere.

After the shoot, we return for breakfast, check out and transfer to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

It is a beautiful final morning and one last chance to bring together everything we have explored throughout the week.
