Luminar Neo 1.24 Update: What’s New & Why You Should Be Excited
Apr 24, 2025
The latest Luminar Neo update (version 1.24) was released on April 24, 2025. It brings exciting new features and improvements designed to make your editing workflow smoother, faster, and even more creative. Let's take a closer look at what's new!
1. Improved Atmosphere AI: More Realistic Fog & Mist Effects
If you've used Atmosphere AI before, you know it's great for adding fog, mist, or haze with just a few sliders. However, in version 1.24, this tool gets a serious upgrade.
In the previous version (1.23.1), fog often appeared flat and didn't blend naturally with the scene. Now, thanks to enhanced depth mapping, fog behaves much more realistically. For example, it now avoids foreground objects like trees until you increase the depth slider enough to cover them gradually. This creates a much more believable effect.
All four fog modes (Fog, Layered Fog, Mist, and Haze) now follow the scene's depth far more accurately, adding atmosphere where it belongs and avoiding that overly artificial look.
Why it matters: You get better results faster. No need for endless tweaking or masking!
2. New Auto Adjustment Tool: A Smart Start to Your Edits
Version 1.24 introduces the highly requested Auto Adjustment feature. Found in the Develop and Develop RAW tools, this option automatically tweaks basic settings like exposure, contrast, and tone curves.
This is perfect if you:
- Want a quick starting point for your edits
- Need inspiration for how to begin processing a photo
- Want to create presets with consistent base adjustments
You can even save your auto-adjusted settings as a preset and reuse them across your library.
3. Exporting Just Got Easier (and Faster)
Exporting is now much more streamlined in Luminar Neo 1.24. You'll notice new export options when you click the Export button in the top right corner of the Edit module:
- Export with Previous: Use the same settings as your last export
- Quick Export Options: Instantly save as JPEG (100% or 80%), TIFF (16-bit or 8-bit)
- New File Format Support: You can now export in DNG format (a long-requested feature!).
Other handy updates include:
- Support for transparency (for compatible formats)
- Sharpening, resizing, color space, and resolution controls
- Easy file renaming and metadata tag options
Why it matters: Spend less time exporting and more time creating.
4. Clear Cache Option: Speed Things Up
Over time, Luminar Neo stores cached data from your edits and catalog. In version 1.24, you can now clear that cache easily from the settings menu.
Just go to Luminar Neo > Settings > Catalog, and you'll see the option to Clear Cache. It's a quick way to free up space and boost the app's performance, especially if you've noticed things slowing down lately.
Tip: Clear your cache regularly to keep Luminar Neo running smoothly.
