Luminar NEO: How to use the Body AI Tool

Luminar NEO and its Portrait Tools are designed to help improve portrait photos. All the tools are stored in the Portrait section of the main toolbar. This includes the Body AI Tool designed to adjust the shapes of the torso and abdomen of the subjects. This can be used to create interesting effects, but it is mainly designed to counterpart unwanted lens distortion in the image.

What is Body AI

The Body AI tool shapes a subject’s torso and abdomen.

Introducing Body AI sliders

Body

This slider slims or adds volume to a subject’s torso.

Abdomen

This slider pinches in a subject’s abdomen to remove volume.

Getting started with Body AI

Start your portrait editing and visually review your image to see if there are any lens or camera distortions. For example, wide lenses can make your subjects look unnatural, making their body look larger than in reality. On the opposite, the long zoom can make your subjects appear thinner than in reality. To adjust this, use the Body and Abdomen sliders in combination with the Slim Face slider in the Face AI tool.

TIP 👍: The tool will be applied to all the subjects in the photo (all people). To edit subjects individually, use the Masking tool and a combination of multiple adjustments (more in the video below).

Body AI: 

1. Open the portrait image in Luminar NEO using the Add Photos button (Cmd/Ctrl + O) in the Catalog module (L).
2. Move to the Edit module (E).
3. Open the Body AI tool in the Portrait section of the main toolbar.
4. Use the Body and Abdomen sliders to adjust the shape of the main subjects.
5. When using the Shape slider, shifting it toward the right will make the subject thinner, and shifting it toward the left will make the subject larger.
6. When adjusting the Abdomen slider, simply increase the amount based on the desired look.

Luminar NEO

Luminar Neo is the latest editing software from Skylum. It was announced back in September 2021, and it's been highly anticipated since.
