What is Magic Light AI

The Magic Light AI is the seventh extension introduced by Skylum for their photo editing software - Luminar NEO. This highly anticipated extension uses its AI feature to scan the image and add additional light effects to artificial light sources like street lights, car lights, candles, fairy lights, Christmas trees and many others. The light effect added by the extension creates a star-like effect with extra light beams and additional glow following the colour of the light source. The light beams and glow can be individually adjusted with robust yet simple sliders in the tool. Advanced users will appreciate the possibility of masking and layer editing with this tool which will give you additional options on how it can be used. To finish it off, the Magic Light AI can be used with both Standalone and plug-in versions of Luminar NEO.

How to get Magic Light AI

The Magic Light AI is a professional paid extension for Luminar NEO. Currently, there are three ways to get it:

Introducing Magic Light AI sliders

The intensity slider controls the overall intensity of the Magic Light AI effect.

The Size slider changes the size of all the beams and glow.

Beam Width

Use this slider to adjust the width of the light beam. 0 value will completely remove it.

The Glow slider adjusts the amount of glow around each light

The Clearness slider controls how defined the individual beams are. 0 value will blur them out entirely.

The Brightness sliders adjust the brightness of the glow and the beam in each light.

Number of Beams

Use this slider to select the number of beams in each light. The minimum is two, and the maximum is 24.

This Rotation slider allows you to rotate the individual beams from right to left.

Getting started with Magic Light AI

The Magic Light AI can be used in both RAW and JPEG photo formats. To use it starts by covering the basic development following your usual photo editing workflow. Ideally, you would use the Magic Light AI before moving into the Creative section of your main toolbar as some of the tools like Glow, Mystical and Dramatic maybe create a similar effect, and you don't want to overprocess your image. Once you use the Magic Light AI, applying additional colour grading (Mood, Color, Color Harmony, etc.) is an excellent practice to blend the effect with the rest of the image.

TIP 👍: To add individual Magic Light effects to different parts of the photo, use the layer feature together with masking.

Luminar NEO

Luminar Neo is the latest editing software from Skylum. It was announced back in September 2021 and has been highly anticipated.

Luminar Neo is an AI-powered photo editing software. Skylum has said that Neo isn’t replacing their previous release—Luminar AI. But Neo sets out to fix some of the issues users faced with Luminar AI.

We were impressed with the AI tools in Luminar AI. But like many others, we encountered performance issues. Luminar Neo uses the same AI tools, but the new high-speed core engine improves speed and performance.

Luminar Neo isn’t just more of the same. We’re happy to see Skylum has taken Neo in a different direction, adding layer and mask AI tools to the program. This broadens Neo’s appeal, taking it in an Adobe Photoshop direction.
